Instagram username generator

Your Instagram handle is the @name in your profile URL, the one people type to find or tag you. It has to be unique across all of Instagram and can be up to 30 characters. It is not the same as your display name, which can repeat, and which can contain spaces and emoji.

For a personal account, yes, if it is available: it is the thing people will search. For anything you sell through, put the category next to it, since @ava.ceramics can be found by someone who has forgotten your name but remembers what you make.

Letters, numbers, periods and underscores only, up to 30 characters. No spaces, no hyphens, no emoji and no accented letters. A handle cannot begin or end with a period, and cannot contain two periods in a row. Capitals are accepted but stored in lowercase.

Set the length filter to 4 and choose the Rare style. Four-character handles made of real words are almost all claimed, so the generator builds them from pronounceable fragments instead, which is where the unclaimed ones are. Expect to check several before one is free.

Instagram allows two changes within any 14-day window, then makes you wait. There is no cap over a longer period, but every switch releases the old handle and breaks links people have saved, so changing often makes you harder to find.

Yes, as close to exact as you can get. People search the brand, not a clever variation. If the name is taken, add a word describing what you sell or where you are, such as @northsidebakery, rather than numbers or underscores, which get mistyped and lose you the traffic.

Not formally. The only way to hold a handle is to create an account with it and keep that account active, because Instagram can reclaim handles from accounts that stay empty and unused. If a name matters to your brand, claim it early on a real account rather than waiting.
